When the Massachusetts Audubon Society decided to expand its purpose and usage at its Worcester location, major renovation work to the existing facility was needed to make this possible. They needed space for educational classrooms, offices, and sales areas, and they needed it accomplished quickly. CKA was able to fast track the construction process and commence work even while future phases of the work were still being developed. CKA worked closely with the architect and the MA Audubon director. As soon as one phase was completed, the plans for the next phase were ready so that work progressed on a seamless schedule.
Environmentally friendly materials were used whenever possible and the new construction was kept in accord with the existing 1800’s barn structure. The final result was a greatly expanded facility that preserved the look and feel of the historic structure. All new construction is ADA compliant. Also, all new mechanicals, including sprinklers, were installed throughout the facility. All this was accomplished while keeping the existing facility accessible to visitors at all times during the construction. After the initial scope of work was completed, MA Audubon Society added a large wrapping deck on the back of the building which added more usable space for their outside programs. Since completion of this project, MA Audubon has continued to call on CKA for ongoing projects.
